Grade 2
Foss hands-on Science taught twice weekly in the school science lab. Students reflect and respond in various ways. Science content is also integrated into the non-fiction portion of Readers and Writers workshop as per the new Common Core State Standards.A supplemental program provided to all students for four months is the Audubon Society's For the Birds! program. It is a supplemental program in which volunteers from the Audubon society either visit classes or lead outdoor field trips to teach life science topics around birds of New York City. Incorporates a love for birds in NYC.
Grade 3
Each class visits the science lab twice a week during the 3rd grade science cycle which alternates with a Social Studies cycle????? Students reflect and respond in various ways. Science content is also integrated into the non-fiction portion of Readers and Writers workshop as per the new Common Core State Standards. Each classroom teacher will teach 2 units: Measurement and Simple Machines; Specialty teachers teach 2 other units: Energy and Plants and Animals.
